Republican VEEPstakes

News reports has McCain making his announcement of VP as early as this week. I think this would be good strategy as all the major news organizations continue to show their bias and fawn all over Obama.

I'm going to go ahead and make my prediction and it's not much of a stretch.

Mitt Romney will be the Republican VP candidate.

He brings youth and charisma (definitely something McCain lacks) as well as a fund-raising capability. He is also a very sharp cookie.

I think the first thing McCain will do is to direct Romney to head his economic advisory board to develop a very specific, strong strategy for getting our economy back in shape. While both candidates up til now have dealt with the economy in very broad terms, the Republicans can seize this opportunity to lay out very specific details.

Romney's the guy that can make that happen.

So, welcome to the 2008 McCain/Romney ticket.

Remember, you heard it here first - or not.

It's hard to tell your parishioners to vote for a Mormon

when you've been telling them all along that the Morman Church is a cult.

Not sure which Baptist preacher said that, but it's true. Just how are the good Christian folks going to take to the idea of a Veep who:

Believes that the dead should be baptized

Believes that in the afterlife he will be given a planet all his own to populate with his progeny.

Totally rejects original sin.

Believes in salvation through good works, not by faith alone.

Believes the Bible is the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly.

Believes the Book of Mormon is also the Word of God, and since it was written in English, was not subject to translation.

Believes Zion will be established in the USA, not Israel.

So...are you under the impression that good Bible believing Republicans are going to be able to pull the lever for a team that includes a person their church has told them for years belongs to a cult? Do you believe Romney lost, with his huge bankroll because he was not photogenic enough?

It'll be a factor, no doubt

Unfortunately, there will be some that won't be able to look past his religious beliefs to vote for him.

It's like the Democrat I spoke to who asked "What the hell has this world come to when all I'm given a choice to vote for is a black and a woman?"

True story.

I think if you put the personal characteristics of Romney and Bill Clinton up on a board, most would pick Romney as the Christian. Now before anyone goes off on me, I was just using him as an example of a Southern Baptist who ran for office and did not get the support of the "Christian right".

I also make the point that enlighten and freethought have made which is you don't have to be Christian to be of good moral character. I believe that free and enlighten are good moral people who don't happen to share the same belief system that I do. They may be misguided in some specific areas, but nobody's perfect.

I hope that the people who actually show up to vote in November do so and pay no attention to race, creed, sex, or age. Vote for the ticket that you feel best represents those areas that are of most concern to you.

For some, that will be the economy. For some, that will be naional security. For some, it will be a host of issues.

This is not Gearge Bush running or Bill Clinton running or Al Gore running or Dick Cheney running. I will say it will be some relief not to have the name of BUSH or CLINTON on a sign (assuming Obama doesn't pick Hillary).

So, yes Gregg, some will not be able to look past that. Some won't be able to look past Obama's color and that is wrong, too.

And I think that you and I still hold out hope for a rise in a party that will be successful enough to hold both the Democrats and the Republicans honest.

Won't be Sanford

thank God! He can't even answer a simple question. Must be all that private school education he got.

As far a flip flop Romney...I have friends in Mass who would laugh in your face. He is finished as Governor up there so maybe a vp run would be good for him.

Who do you think Obama is going to pick?

hoodornament's picture

Common ground - yeah

Something we both can agree on. I never understood why Sanford was even on any list other than that whole "maverick" connection with McCain.

Sanford would add nothing to the ticket. I think SC will stay Republican this year, but it'll be closer than anyone can imagine.

My guess for the Dem VP? I'm picking Evan Bayh. Some will say he's not a good choice because he's from Indiana, but I think Obama will realize that he has very strong credentials, helps bring the Clinton supporters back and provides a true moderate (unlike Obama's sudden shift since the nomination was secured).

How's that for fair and balanced?

I like Bayh Too

i think Evan Bayh would be a great choice. All Barak has to do it seems is let John McCain keep on running his mouth. He can't get his facts right. He can't seem to remember he got rid of Phil Graham. Old! Old! Old! Maybe he should go get Bob Dole!
