So, The Herald's Board ended literally minutes of speculation about whom they would support in the Republican primary on Saturday.
I had a feeling they would go with McCain. I'm sure their heart told them to endorse Ron Paul, but maybe there is hope after all. Nah.
Anyway, I am going to find myself in some very odd and unusual territory. I agree with the Herald.
Not that my endorsement carries much street cred, but I have my reasons.
First of all, logically speaking, Duncan Hunter lines up with me ideologically better than anyone else (when all aspects are considered). However, I think Duncan has dropped out of the race, but forgot to tell everyone.
I like Huckabee as a person - and on the social issues, we're right there together. I also think he has brought a refreshing air to the campaign. I just don't think he can win a general election against Hillary or Obama. Plus, I am not real confident in his foreign policy and economical stances.
Early on, I thought Fred Thompson might be my guy, but I don't see that happening. I think he's done after Saturday. Rumor has it he's up for the role of the Crypt-keeper in the new Tales From the Crypt move.
A couple of years ago, I thought Romney would come in and be the one. Good looking, sucessful, well-spoken. We even match up well across the board. My gut just says no.
So, we come back to McCain. Not my ideal candidate. However, if you look at not just the Republican field, but the Democratic candidates as well, he is by far the best (safest) choice for the job. I think the economy would be better off with him. Certainly foreign policy and defense. We're a bit off on illegals, but I sense he'd work towards a compromise and at least get something done.
I think it's time for South Carolina to send a message that McCain is best suited to be the next President over any candidate currently running. Not perfect, but the best one running with a chance to actually win.
I'm already planning his VP choices. I said last year I thought Lindsay would get that job, but now, I don't think so. McCain might consider Huckabee - which would be an attraction to the Party's base conservatives. I've heard Mark Sanford's name thrown out there. Jeb Bush would be a good choice if he changed his last name (maybe Jeb Stuart?).
Back to Lindsay, can you say Good Morning, Mr. Attorney General?
Maybe McCain can use me as part of his transition team? You think?
Anyway, so there you have it. Hoodornament endorses McCain for President.
There's your headline.

Vote against Obama
The change that he represents is a very scary thing. He is not what he seems. You may not want to vote for McCain, but you certainly need to vote against Obama. I do not want my children and grandchildren to live under the rule of a socialist government -- which is exactly what Obama will give us.
