... it looks like Marshall is not a candidate, at least for now. Gary McCann reports in today's Herald that Marshall hasn't been contacted. Marshall's name has emerged againSubmitted by jmcguire on Thu, 2006-04-27 14:21.
Well, the Pack is now 0-for-4. Steve Lavin and John Beilin have turned them down, so it's back to the drawing board. Which means ... Gregg Marshall is back on the board! His picture is once again on the front of Pack Pride. And there is a long thread on the message board about Marshall. Fans seem to be excited. Stay tuned. Marshall has done a lot for Winthrop and for Rock Hill, but I kinda think it's time he moves on for himself. Winthrop will be lucky to win one game in the NCAA 64. But they'd be LUCKIER than George Mason to advance to round 2. Take the money and run, Coach..... IF they make an offer!!! Joe H. One thread speculates that Bobby Lutz. head coach of the Charlotte 49ers, will go to NCSU, with Marshall taking Lutz's place in the Queen City. For the most part, Pack backers seem to be warming to the idea of Marshall. Most like his intensity and track record. Many are worried about his lack of big-time recruiting experience. What was all the hoopla about contract extensions that "would keep him at Winthrop" for the rest of his career and the higher salary that went with it? The Herald surely wasted a lot of column-inches and staff payroll dollars on all that news a short time back! Looks like anything written in stone on the sports pages will make good compost in the garden the day after you read it! Well ...Submitted by jmcguire on Wed, 2006-04-19 18:08.
... he hasn't gone anywhere yet. As far as we know, he hasn't even been offered, so it's a little premature to say make any judgements about whether he was locked in or not. And, The Herald story on Marshall's contract extension mentioned that the contract had provisions that would let him look at other jobs. In other words, a buy-out clause. Very standard in coaching contracts. Marshall looking like ...Submitted by SteveG on Wed, 2006-05-03 22:28.
From a column on ESPN.com: Winthrop's Gregg Marshall looks like the lonely girl at the bar, still available at closing time if NC State gets desperate. Ouch.
