July 6 - What are the odds?

• Joe and Josephine have been married for 50 years. Not too unusual you think? Probably not, but Joe, the youngest in his family, has one brother and three sisters, still no big deal. Factor in that Joe’s brother and sister-in-law and sisters and brothers-in-law have all celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and I’m thinking the odds have increased!

Another neat bit of trivia, all four siblings and their spouses live in the area and celebrated Joe and Josephine's wonderful milestone with them last month.

• Many would say that Sammie and Katie also beat the odds. They were literally just kids, Sammie was 17 and Katie was 15, when they drove to Chester to get married. The first trip to Chester, they were turned away – not because Katie was too young, but because it was too late in the day for the Justice of the Peace to marry them. They drove back after some fast talking to get the JP to open up the courthouse and marry them on 60 years ago, Sunday, July 4, 1948.
