Oldies music has returned to the Charlotte market.
The Charlotte Observer is reporting WNMX (106.1 FM) today changed its format from adult standards to the hits of the 60s and 70s. It's the first time a Charlotte station has played oldies music since 96.1 changed to pop in 2004.
I'm excited about this. I grew up riding around town with my dad with the windows down, COOL 105.9FM out of Orlando, Fla., blaring and a cold Coke in my hand.
There's something about the early years of Rock 'n' Roll that can't be duplicated. Hopefully this format will stick in Charlotte. Oldies tunes always hit the spot when you're in the car. Summer nights on the lake or at the drive-in just landed an upgrade in my book.

95.7 vs. HAL 9000
Don't get me wrong 95.7 has their share of good tunes, but there's something funny about having the same DJ working all day and night... Oh wait it's not a Disc Jockey it's CJ (Cyber Jock) I'm waitng for the guy... no computer... to say "Good Morning Dave."
I've hated the fact that 95.7 went to nothing, but music and commercials. The station has zero personality at all. And it shows in their ratings. Oldies stations should be known for having the best jocks around, even if their delivery is a bit cheesy.
1110 WBT has a new weekend show with Boomer who use to work at 96.1 when it was an oldies station and has brought back that feel of radio of old. 1110 switches from News and Talk to the WBT Time Machine 9 - 12 on Saturday nights and it's great. Music and Talk.
Great job WNMX for bring back an Oldies station to the Charlotte area.
