I heard a rumor there's a new traffic pattern over at Bird Street and University Drive, so on a trip back from Sullivan Middle School this morning, I checked it out.
Wow! A traffic circle. Right there at the old intersection in front of St. Anne's. No more stopping at University, counting the minutes till you can turn onto Bird. Now you can just slip into the circle and keep turning the wheel left till you want out. Pretend you're the No. 19 car coming into that fourth turn ... only a lot slower.
This makes, unless I'm wrong, the second traffic circle in Rock Hill. There's one over behind Lowe's at Springsteen Road that's a dandy for sliding into that shopping center the back way.
Just remember: The person in the circle has the right of way. If you're trying to get in, you gotta yield.

Traffic Circle
I discovered that myself a week ago or so.
I gotta ask, though, how much is this traffic circle costing the tax payers of Rock Hill? What are the criteria for determing the need for a traffic circle and how did this intersection warrant it.
Granted, I am aware that two schools are located nearby. Personally, I have never had any problems turning left onto Bird - other than the occasion car coming too fast down the hill. A well built speed hump would slow things down as well as save money.
Just curious if our intrepid reporters at the Herald can add value to our day and look into these issues.
