Cops knockout $75K consultant

Readers are fired up over my Sunday column slamming Rock Hill city council and city management for spending $75,000 on a consultant to decide police department staff needs while not hiring more cops. There is money for tennis courts and consultants but not money to help overworked and underpaid cops.

A lady from York told me to "Keep giving them @#$%^&!"

The mother of a RHPD officer left me a message saying that cops are treated poorly and the politicians don't care.

One cop said of the article, "you hit the nail on the head."

Another wrote anonymously: "Your article was dead on from what I've seen. It's a shame that the politics of a budget forces the loss of the true needs of a city. Even though the police department is spread thin, we'll continue giving everything we've got to make the streets safe. Thanks for the kind of article that doesn't pull any punches."

Time for the public to say so: Should the cops get hired and the plug pulled on the consultant?

The thin blue line

The thin blue line just got seventy grand thinner.

But I wouldn't slam city managers too quickly. It is expedient to do so. Give them a chance to explain it. Government "deciders" sometimes damned if they do or don't.

Easy there Dys...easy...sit...good boy...
