The first game here in Denver broke my bracket, and broke my back.
Like so many millions I filled out a NCAA Tournament Bracket. I don't know sports like many know sports. I pick who I like. I pick against who I hate. I pick against favorites hoping those big shots get slammed. I pick with my gut.
I now have dysentery.
I had Temple, who played Michigan State here in Denver in the first game of the four games today, going to the Final Four. I picked Temple because they were the underdog, because I love Bill Cosby who went to Temple, and just to be feisty and disagree with everybody else.
Temple just got thumped.
They were behind the whole game.
Xavier won another early game in D.C. —I picked them right. Kansas won, too.
But the whole world picked those teams.
I start out, alone in the world, in last place.
Right where I usually am.
And just so all know, my bracket has Winthrop winning the national title, after beating Davidson in the first semifinal of the Final Four. I have Winthrop beating Baylor in the title game. Only because Baylor was probably the last team to get in this year, and Winthrop lost to Baylor earlier this year.
