Home sweet home

I am back home and adjusting to the 7 hour time difference as well as I can. I have been up at 4:00 a.m. the past 2 mornings. Hopefully I will be able to sleep until 6:00 again soon!

We had a safe trip home after a month of being gone, which is truly a blessing! I was glad to see my family again.

Final Days in Kenya

Our field trip to Lake Nakuru on Friday, July 25, was an experience to say the least!!

The kids were so excited. Some didn't even sleep the night before the trip. We were supposed to depart from Jubilee at 7:00 a.m. for a 3 hour bus ride. We ended up leaving about 8:20 a.m., a common occurrence in Kenya! This delayed us the entire day and made for a long, long day!

A birthday party and computers at Jubilee Children's Center

Connie Spencer arrived last Friday night to Jubilee Children's Center to join Ramona Havas and me for our final week in Kenya! Connie brought many items for the birthday bags (little toys and candy and jewelry) to add to the items that RAmona and I bought on behalf of KOP (Kenya Orphanage Project, which funds Jubilee). We had a great time stuffing the birthday bags! The kids all got new leather shoes from BATA shoe store for their birthdays, too, so they'll look "SMART," their term for looking good/looking nice

Learning swahili and washing clothes-Kenya style

It is hard to believe I"ve been in Nairobi, Kenya, for 3 weeks. I have been having a wonderful time with the beautiful children of Jubilee Children's Center, who are sponsored and supported by Kenya Orphanage Project.

Forrest Gump in Kenya

So running has become immensely popular at Jubilee Children's Center since I've been here. The boys in the older classes have been running at least as much if not more than I run each day and they challenge me to quicken my pace. The younger children and girls join us for a lap or two (there is one girl who is running about 30 minutes straight!). I hope they will continue to run when I Leave. I promise there are about 20 kids or so who run some of the time each morning. Tehy used to look at me like I was crazy, but now they're joining me!

Kenya

Greetings from Kenya! I arrived safely after successfully completing all of my flights through JFK ans Zurich, Switzerland. My bags met me at the airport (last year, they were two days late!) and my contact person was there to pick me up.

The children of Jubilee Children's Center, whom I visited last summer, seemed so happy to see me come back. I had felt last summer that I was just another person who was leaving them and was determined to come back.
