That would be a no

Was just alerted to the Profootballtalk.com report that suggests if QB Brett Favre comes back, he'd want to play for the Panthers.

That's not happening, and it's not because Favre doesn't want to come here.

For starters, the Panthers have a starter they like just fine in Jake Delhomme. And while the world seems to think his arm's going to fly off like a scene from Monty Python, he's actually ahead of schedule coming back from last year's elbow surgery.

Jarrett pleads guilty

CHARLOTTE -- Carolina Panthers wide receiver Dwyane Jarrett pleaded guilty on Monday to a charge of driving while impaired.

Jarrett was arrested in March after recording a blood alcohol level of 0.12.

On Monday, Jarrett was given a 30-day suspended sentence, ordered to pay $420 in fines and complete 24 hours of community service.

After the verdict, Jarrett said he was “happy to get this over with and learn from my mistakes.”

Minor roster move

The Panthers have shuffled their third-string offensive line, claiming C Pat Ross off waivers from Indianapolis. He was undrafted out of Boston College in 2006, and has spent time on practice squads or in camp with Seattle, New England and the Colts.

They released guard Eric Tunney to make room on the roster for him. Tunney was one of this year's undrafteds out of Central Michigan.

The Panthers still have 89 on the roster, and have to cut nine when they sign their draft picks. They probably won't cut into the OL though, because they have the 15 they want to take to Spartanburg.

OTA Day 11 -- That's a wrap

-- As expected and as usual, they wrapped it up Thursday, and won't reconvene until training camp. They finished with the annual conditioning test, in which players run four sets of two sideline-to-sideline-and-back sprints.

When the big fellas do them, it's always wild. In a mild surprise, gigantic DT Maake Kemoeatu wasn't bringing up the rear, moving well (though there might have been a tremor when he flopped on the ground afterward). LT Jordan Gross was out in front of the pack early, though the linemen were paced by DE Charles Johnson by the end of their set.

OTA Day 10, Looking at the back seven

-- We finally got a look at LB Landon Johnson with the starters, since veteran Na'il Diggs was on the side taking what appeared to be a veteran soreness day.

Watching Johnson's progress is going to be interesting. The draw with him is easy to see: He's smart, fast and versatile. But the flip side is a bad Cincinnati defense was willing to let him walk after he led the Bengals in tackles three of the last four years.

OTA Day 9, Of arms and legs

-- Seriously, I'm not sure if it's that the hot weather enables him to loosen up more, or whether his arm's stronger than it was before. But QB Jake Delhomme has as much zing on the ball as ever, if not more. He's progressed to the point that if he's on a pitch count at all, it's impossible to tell. If you never knew he had Tommy John surgery seven months ago, you wouldn't know it from watching him practice today.

OTA Day 8, Getting hot out here

-- The cameras spotted Panthers DE Julius Peppers at last night's Game 2 of the NBA Finals, but he was out on the field with everyone else Monday morning.

Attendance for this camp has been good throughout, with few absences for injury or otherwise, other than first-round RB Jonathan Stewart (toe).

-- The heat's reaching Spartanburg levels here, with it hitting the mid-90s by mid-morning. They say it's going to cool off soon, and it better, because I think I saw the devil standing in the parking lot as I was leaving practice.

OTA Day 7, Jarrett speaks

-- Finally talked to WR Dwayne Jarrett, who has kept a low profile since his DWI arrest in March. He still didn't say anything about that, since his court date is in June, but he did talk about his development and the hurdles he has to clear to get on the field.

Of his arrest, and its on-field impact, he admitted: "It definitely adds pressure."

Of course, he downplayed a lot of it, saying he was going to use it as motivation: "I'm not going to let this hold me back."

OTA Day 6, Hackett back

-- So the knee swelling that kept WR D.J. Hackett off the field the last two days was apparently minor, since he was back out there today. He said he just took a few days to make sure it didn't get worse, icing it down.

Of course, the temperature keeps ramping up out here, so ice isn't the worst idea. If they're trying to gradually get these guys ready for Spartanburg, they're getting cooperation from the weather.

OTA Day 5: Wouldn't be prudent

-- FS Terrence Holt said he had his brother Torry in town for a visit recently, and thought about taking him along to the Panthers bowling outing.

Given that his brother's been openly lobbying for a chance to play here (despite the two years of contract he has with St. Louis), they decided it might be a bad idea.

"Someone could superimpose a Panther shirt on him, or something," the younger Holt said with a laugh. "We thought that might be too much."
