The Panthers will be getting a visit from former Houston QB David Carr next week. That'll give them a chance to go back to their old draft files from 2002.
They're fine with the guy they got second (Julius Peppers), but were always intrigued by Carr's potential and poise.
In fact, several sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed in the aftermath that Carr was actually ranked higher on their draft board than Peppers.
The Panthers are also expected to visit with the third pick from that draft, Joey Harrington, but they've always preferred Carr.

Ughhh..Joey or David is Chris Weinke still available?
Joey proved lasted year, he wasnt nearly as bad as first thought. Playing on the loins was his main problem.
David Carr, what can you say......... basically does everything you want form a QB except win. Stays out of trouble, good family man, works hard, has a good arm, etc etc. Then you hear all the OL stuff, he needs a better OL and he wouldnt get sacked as much, yes every QB needs better OL.
But Carr needed to get rid of ball quicker than he was, read the defense better, know where the biltz is coming, make adjustments Pre-snap, watch more film, make better choices(I've seen lots of mistakes on his part), ETC ETC.
If Carolina were playing tomorrow I'd want Joey, If I want the QB with more upside I'll take Carr, BUT he needs to be reprogrammed.
